What to include

Everything a normal party invitation has, plus two things unique to a reveal.

• Say plainly that nobody knows yet — or that only one person does. It is the fun of the thing.
• Invite a guess. “Team pink or team blue?” gives guests something to do the moment they arrive.
• Ask people to wear their guess if you want the photographs to tell the story.
• Be strict about arrival time. A reveal happens once. Latecomers miss the entire point, so say when the moment happens.
• Say who is holding the secret — usually a friend, the sonographer or the baker — so guests know not to interrogate the parents.

When to send

Reveals are usually held between eighteen and twenty-two weeks, once the scan can tell.

• Send two to three weeks ahead. These are short, high-energy gatherings; people do not need months of notice.
• Ask for replies about five days before, especially if a cake or balloon box is being made to order.
• Confirm the reveal time in a reminder the day before — it is the one detail that must not be missed.

Keeping the secret safe

The riskiest place for a reveal is a group chat, where a stray message or a forwarded photo ruins it. A private link that guests open individually keeps the surprise where it belongs, and lets you see who is coming without a public thread of replies.
