What to include

A few specifics that spare your guests from asking.

• The occasion by name — aqiqah, Bismillah, nikah, walima, iftar — so guests understand the nature of the gathering.
• Timing around prayer. For an iftar, give the maghrib time; for a daytime event, say whether there will be a break for salah.
• Whether a meal is served, and when. “Dinner immediately after maghrib” answers the only question that matters at an iftar.
• Seating arrangements, if the gathering has separate areas for men and women — mentioning it kindly avoids awkwardness at the door.
• The venue details in full: entrance, parking, and where to leave footwear if the space requires it.

When to send

Notice depends on the occasion, but earlier is always kinder for family who travel.

• Aqiqah and Bismillah: two to three weeks ahead is comfortable.
• Nikah and walima: four to six weeks, more if guests are travelling.
• Iftar gatherings: a week or two — Ramadan evenings fill up quickly, so do not leave it late.
• Ask for replies about a week before, so catering can be finalised.
