What to include

These are the details guests most often have to ask for.

• Which puja it is — Satyanarayan, Griha Pravesh, Lakshmi Puja, a naming ceremony. It tells guests what kind of gathering to expect.
• The muhurat, and the arrival time. Give both: when the ceremony begins, and when guests should be seated. They are rarely the same.
• Whether prasad or a full meal follows, and roughly when. Guests travelling a distance plan their day around it.
• Dress, if it matters to you. “Traditional dress” or “dress comfortably — we will be seated on the floor” is genuinely helpful.
• Practicalities: where to leave footwear, where to park, and which entrance to use.

When to send

Auspicious dates are often fixed well ahead, so early notice is easy to give and much appreciated.

• Send three to four weeks ahead for a home puja, longer if relatives are travelling.
• Ask for replies a week before, so catering and seating can be arranged properly.
• Send a short reminder the day before with the arrival time — ceremonies start when they start.

Knowing how many to cook for

Numbers matter more for a puja than almost any other gathering, because the meal is part of the welcome. Sending the invitation as a link lets relatives reply with a tap wherever they are, and gives you a running count for the kitchen instead of a scattered set of phone calls.
